Real Estate signs are exposed to the elements days, weeks and, dare we say it, even months at a time.  The various weather extremes can wreak havoc on your signs if they lack proper protection.  It is important to purchase yard signs from experts that will ask questions, understand your geographical location, and guide you to purchase the proper signage materials.  Below, we point out a few common problems that may occur if you don’t purchase signage that is adequately protected.

Fading & Peeling

The following hazards can cause fading and peeling:

-UV rays

-Sprinkler systems (hard water)

-Extreme heat and cold

-Salty, coastal air

Our Solution: Clear Coating and Powder Coating are added as Key Protections

Clear Coat

Clear coat is a protective layer added to panels after they’ve been printed to help prevent scratching and fading, while also providing a professional, glossy and finished look.

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a protective layer added to the signage materials that gives a very durable, porcelain like finish.  It coats metal panels and frames, protects them from the elements, and prolongs the life of your signs.  Many companies will simply dip your frames in paint.  If you’re looking to get as much ROI out of your signs as possible, we suggest that you do not choose materials, especially frames that have been painted.  They will not hold up to the elements as well as a powder coated frame.

A Few Suggestions

-When ordering signs, make sure your sign vendor is applying clear coat to the panels. Most vendors don’t add it by default, but it can be requested, usually with an additional charge.

-Most sign vendors are happy to talk about the sign making process. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about how signs are made and how often equipment is tested and calibrated.

-If possible, store yard signs inside, away from the elements.

- Ask about the finish of your steel frames and panels. Are they using powder coat or just painting them?
